40 years of home food production – new owners and a new webshop build on the old values

This year, Dansk Hjemmeproduktion celebrates its 40th anniversary. Since 1986, thousands of Danes have come to us for inspiration and equipment to make everything from cured sausages, cheese and wine to apple juice, honey, kombucha and fermented specialities.

From Funen to Ejstrupholm

Four decades – and only three owners

The company was founded on Funen in 1986 by Kirsten Iversen. In 2008 it moved to Hygild near Ejstrupholm, where Palle Ledet Jensen took over, and over four decades Dansk Hjemmeproduktion has grown into one of Denmark's best-known specialist shops for home food production.

Today the company is carried on by Helle Petersen and Mads Østergaard, who took over Dansk Hjemmeproduktion on 15 June 2025 – only the third owners in the company's history. We still run the business from the Ejstrupholm area, now from Holmevej 1.

New owners

Grew up with home food production

For Helle Petersen and Mads Østergaard, the takeover was far from a coincidence. Both grew up in families where home food production, good ingredients and cooking from scratch were a natural part of everyday life.

My father was a customer of Dansk Hjemmeproduktion back when the company was still on Funen. I grew up with home-made cured sausages, rullepølse (rolled meat sausage), cheese, vinegar and honey. I still remember tasting freshly spun honey straight from the extractor. Making food from scratch has been part of my life ever since, so carrying Dansk Hjemmeproduktion forward felt completely natural.

Today the couple live in the countryside just outside Ejstrupholm. They keep hens, grow herbs and vegetables in the kitchen garden, make their own cheese and forage for berries and mushrooms when the season allows. Both are hunters, and for them hunting, foraging, the kitchen garden and home food production naturally belong together: respect for the ingredients, the joy of providing some of your own food, and good meals with family and friends.

What we're keeping

Real expertise

Our staff don't just have experience in customer service – they share a genuine interest in home food production and cooking. You should be able to get competent help with using what you buy.

What we're keeping

Personal advice

Many people contact us because they're about to make their first cured sausage, their first cheese or their first batch of apple juice. We want to be the ones who give them a good start and help them along the way.

What we're keeping

A wide range of quality products

Helle and Mads had many years of webshop experience when the opportunity arose. In Dansk Hjemmeproduktion they saw a company built on the things they value themselves: high quality, personal customer service and honest advice.

“I grew up on a farm where farming and the kitchen garden were a natural part of everyday life. My father worked the land, while my mother ran the large kitchen garden, pickling, preserving and cooking from scratch. It gave me a deep respect for the old crafts and the joy of making your own food. That joy is something we hope to pass on to even more people.”

New webshop – old values

The technology is new. The values are the same.

As part of this development, Dansk Hjemmeproduktion has launched a new, modern webshop. It is designed to make it much easier to navigate the large range, find the right products and get inspiration for new projects.

The wide range stays, and you can still expect high quality, expert guidance and personal customer service. Above all, the new webshop is meant to make it easier to be our customer – whether you have years of experience or are facing your very first project.

Inspiration and guidance will play an even bigger role in future – on the webshop, in our newsletters and on Facebook and Instagram, where we regularly share recipes, tips and ideas for everything you can make at home.

The core idea

Getting started doesn't have to be hard

At home in their own kitchen, Helle and Mads experiment with home food production themselves – among other things, they make their own cheese. And cheese making is a perfect example of how it doesn't have to be difficult: our cheese-making kits are among our most popular products – everything you need comes in one set. All you have to add is fresh milk.

Although a lot has changed over 40 years – from the early years on Funen to today's webshop in Ejstrupholm – the core idea is still the same: to inspire even more people to discover the joy of making their own food.
