Kombucha starter kit – 4-litre jar with SCOBY and equipment

Get off to a great start with homemade kombucha

This kombucha starter kit gives you all the essential equipment you need to brew your own kombucha at home. The kit makes it easy to get started – even if you are a complete beginner – and lets you brew up to approx. 3 litres of finished kombucha per batch.

Kombucha is a popular fermented tea brewed with the help of a SCOBY. This set is a complete kombucha starter kit for anyone who wants to get started with fermenting at home.

Complete kit with SCOBY and equipment

You get a live kombucha culture (SCOBY), tea and practical equipment, so you can start your first brew straight away.

Written step-by-step instructions are also included.

What you need to provide

• Water
• Sugar

Easy to get started – plenty of room for variation

Start simply with the black tea included and ordinary sugar. Once you have got the hang of the process, you can experiment with other teas, types of sugar and flavourings.

What is a SCOBY?

Kombucha is made through natural fermentation, in which yeast and bacteria work together in a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast).

The yeast converts sugar into alcohol, among other things, and the bacteria then convert the alcohol into organic acids. It is this process that gives kombucha its characteristic fresh, slightly tart flavour.

The SCOBY is not a mushroom but a living community of microorganisms working together.

Brew again and again

Once you are up and running, you can use your kombucha as a starter for new brews. You can also do a second fermentation with ginger, berries or citrus, for example, to develop the flavour further.

The finished kombucha is easy to draw off from the brewing jar and can then be poured into bottles for storage and further fermentation.
